Inheritance Tax Lens
Provides a consolidated planning view of the estate using values currently recorded in the Family Register. Values are derived automatically and are not entered directly.
This is a high-level planning indication only. It does not calculate Inheritance Tax payable and does not replace professional financial, legal or tax advice.
Estate View
Joint Estate uses Family Members identified as Self and Spouse.

Pensions
Includes recorded pension capital potentially relevant to inheritance planning. Annuities, Defined Benefit pensions and State Pension income are not capitalised.
Life Assurance
Current policy value uses recorded surrender values as a planning indicator. Death benefits are shown separately and are not included in current Gross Registered Assets. "Written in Trust" is treated as a planning indicator only; actual estate and tax treatment depends on the policy and trust terms.
Vehicles
Includes vehicles recorded as owned outright. Leased, company and financed vehicles are not included automatically in the estate value.
Valuable Possessions
Uses recorded estimated values. Joint possessions are apportioned 50:50 between their recorded owners. Values are planning estimates rather than insurance replacement values.
Other Liabilities
Includes standalone liabilities recorded in the Liabilities chapter. Property-related liabilities, credit cards and vehicle finance are excluded here to avoid inappropriate duplication in the IHT Lens.
Estate Summary
Inheritance Tax Planning Lens
Directional planning estimate only. The headline threshold assumes the standard Nil-Rate Band and Residence Nil-Rate Band are fully available. Actual Inheritance Tax will depend on the circumstances applying at the relevant time.
Financial Adviser Questions
These questions are intended to support discussion with a Financial Adviser. They may be edited freely and are stored locally in this browser.
Changes are saved automatically.
Remarks and Caveats
This estimate is derived from information currently recorded in the Family Register. Assets or liabilities not yet recorded are not included.
Jointly owned assets are apportioned according to the ownership information held in the relevant Register chapter. Where a later chapter does not record explicit percentages, the IHT Lens will assume equal ownership.
Current calculation coverage: Property, property-related liabilities, Current Accounts, Credit Cards, ISA, Savings, Investments, Business Interests, qualifying Pension capital, Life Assurance, Vehicles, Valuable Possessions and Other Liabilities. Life Assurance death benefits are shown separately from current registered estate assets. Digital Assets & Services are intentionally excluded from financial valuation.
The headline planning threshold is not a confirmed tax allowance. It assumes full availability of the standard Nil-Rate Band and Residence Nil-Rate Band, including any transferable allowance where the Joint Estate view is used. Eligibility, exemptions, reliefs, lifetime gifts and other estate circumstances are not assessed by this headline view.
