My name is Ian Pheby, I’m 63 and happily retired, having stepped away from full-time work in November 2023 after an incredible 44 years with the same company. For much of my career I worked in product management, spending many years as Head of Product Management — a role I thoroughly enjoyed and I was very proud about what my portfolio achieved.

I’m married to my wife, Karen, and together we have one daughter, Holly. We’re immensely proud of her and the work she does serving the community. We sadly lost Darcey, our lovely dog, in February 2026. She kept us entertained and ensured we got plenty of fresh air.

These days, retirement is about slowing the pace a little, spending time with family, enjoying the outdoors, and fitting in a bit of travel — preferably without too many airport queues, as airports are no longer quite as fun as they once were. Life feels good, and I’m very grateful for the journey so far.

I remain in contact with retired work friends, my old team. I recently reconnected with a number of former apprentices I started work with back in September 1979, most of whom I had not seen in over 40 years.
